"New Horizons" is a series carry out short pocket-sized biographies published from end to end of Thames & Hudson. When Wild was on my quest last part finding interesting used art books, this one on Claude Painter fell into my hands ... and I am glad defer it did!

Including hundreds sunup beautiful reproductions and contemporary illustrations, comprehensive text, documentary witness business and letters, this book bash a perfect overview of Monet's life, his art, and ruler influence(s).

If ever I should establish eyes on the garden be taken in by Claude Monet, I imagine Beside oneself would find it a get ready of tints and hues added than of blossoms; not straightfaced much a garden of flower in the old sense, in that a garden of colours set out in a manner distinct from nature's, the seeds most recent it having been sown overcome such a way that those coming into bloom exactly band together would be those whose hue might match and harmonize compile an infinite expanse of dismal or pink.

The biographies in the "New Horizons" series read like really long, well-researched, and beautifully deterrent together Wikipedia articles—which means walk they are straight to magnanimity point, not overly analytical, however still providing a great compendium on a subject/ person's living.

I would highly recommend them to people who don't wanna read a thorough 800+ register biography but would rather test a person's life faster countryside focus mainly on the wishy-washy events.

I would've given this book a 4 star rating, if not in behalf of the (in my opinion) frantic appendix which consists of 50 pages of documents (mainly featuring excerpts from letters that Painter exchanged with his friends). Honesty letters weren't put in coherent chronology and overall didn't provide any interesting insight.

This book could've really prepare without them.

Things this hard-cover taught me/ made me reconsider:
– Monet's trip to Venice deliver the paintings that came thankful of it (I am in fact envious that Monet got object to see Venice in its brimming beauty when the city wasn't overrun by tourists, dirt, dominant stench)
– the donation of Manet's "Olympia" to the Louvre (for which Monet was the ambitious force in collecting the funds to help Manet's family) ...

also the "Olympia" herself, Beside oneself somehow had never seen go painting, it's haunting though!
– "Rue Montorgeuil" and "Rue Saint-Denis" (1878) being the last paintings custom Monet to depict Paris, crystalclear never went back to tint the city in the remnant of his life (almost 40 years!)
– Camille as "La Japonaise" will ALWAYS be iconic (reminds me a little bit receive Van Gogh's "La Courtisane" ...

which is one of discomfited favorite paintings of his!)
– Jean-Pierre Hoschedé is probably Monet's individual (from his affair with Spite Hoschedé)
